Widmer Krystal PearFor the second year Widmer Brothers, one of Portland’s original craft breweries, has brewed the official beer of Feast Portland. This year’s beer is Krystal Pear and it will be available both in bottles and on draft in the Portland market only through September 22nd.

The beer is Widmer’s interpretation of a Krystal Weizen, a beer style Widmer has been brewing since its early days, brewed with pears from eastern Oregon. The delicate pear flavors and semi-dry finish are reminiscent of ciders and make it a perfect beer to pair with a wide variety of foods. It was brewed not on Widmer’s main system, but on their tucked-out-of-the-way pilot brewhouse adjacent to the Moda Center at the Rose Quarter. The 10-barrel setup has historically created draft-only, small batch beers; this year marks the first time they’ve bottled small batch beer, a move that brewer Ben Dobler says, “…is a great way to get the beer to more people around town.”

Bon Appetit presents Feast Portland: A Celebration of Oregon Bounty is a four-day festival running September 19 – 22 and will offer several events featuring Krystal Pear, in addition to a multitude of other events spanning the range from food to beer to wine to spirits. Tasting panels, classes, speakers and meals will highlight the bounty and culinary culture of Oregon.
