MacTarnahan's AmberPortland Brewing Company was founded in 1986 by Fred Bowman and Art Larrance, pioneers of the Portland craft beer movement. After 13 years of growth, during which time the company’s flagship and most popular brew, MacTarnahan’s Amber Ale was introduced, the debt of the company was purchased by Robert “Mac” MacTarnahan. Then in 2004, the company was acquired by Pyramid Breweries and operated under the MacTarnahan’s name.

The re-launch of the company as Portland Brewing celebrates the history of the company and sets the stage for the future. Portland Brewing will continue to be an active participant in the Portland brewing community, producing MacTarnahan’s Amber Ale as its flagship brew with the same recipe that has been used since its introduction in 1992 while also rolling out new seasonal and specialty draft beers. The most noticeable change for consumers will be the new packaging that prominently reflects the Portland Brewing Company name.

Among the new offerings are Portland Brewing IPA and Rose Hip Gold, available in six-packs, 22 oz. bottles and on draft, as well as Oyster Stout made with locally sourced oysters from Yaquina Bay starting February 1. MacTarnahan’s Amber and IPA will be offered year-round, accompanied by seasonal releases of Rose Hip Gold, Zig Zag River Lager, Noble Scot and Blackwatch. Their Big Bottle Series includes Full Bloom Pilsner, Pre Pro Lager and Hazelnut Porter. Draft only offerings, the Oregon Exclusive Series, include the afore-mentioned Oyster Stout, India Pale Lager, Barley Wine and Stout with Cherries.

The Brewery and Taproom will continue regular operations, offering consumers a place to enjoy great beers and food daily, along with tastings, events and more. Stop in for a pint and bite at 2730 NW 31st in Portland or find their beers at your favorite bars, restaurants and retail locations.
