naobf logo (300x149)The North American Organic Brewers Festival (NAOBF) kicks off Thursday in Portland, Ore. The 9th annual event, with the motto to “Drink Organic, Save the Planet, One Beer at a Time!” has expanded into a four-day festival held at scenic Overlook Park.

The festival will showcase organic beers and ciders from nearly 40 breweries/cideries in Oregon and beyond. The brews range from those made with 70 – 94% organic ingredients to fully 100% organic, all labeled accordingly in the festival program. Some of the brews are one-offs made specifically for NAOBF while others are year-round offerings attendees can find outside of the festival.

NAOBF goes beyond just pouring organic beers and ciders, extending their earth-friendly practices to:

  • Reusable and compostable cornstarch tasting glasses made from domestically grown corn by a zero-waste, solar powered company
  • Utilizing needed electricity from biodiesel generators
  • Providing on-site composting and recycling stations that keep 91% of the waste generated from going to the landfill
  • Offering $1 discount for patrons who have a validated bus/train ticket, a ticket from the on-site bike corral or three cans of food to be donated to the Oregon Food Bank
