Oregon Brewers Festival

Each year, the last full weekend in July is marked by a pilgrimage of beer lovers as they gather in Portland, Oregon for one of America’s most beloved beer events: The Oregon Brewers Festival (OBF).

Founded in 1988, OBF originally served to expose the public to Oregon’s 7 microbreweries: Bridgeport, Deschutes, Full Sail, McMenamins, Portland Brewing, Rogue and Widmer. Twenty-eight years later, over 388 breweries have proudly participated in the annual festival. Over 85,000 beer lovers from around the world are expected to attend this year’s festival, in a city that now boasts more breweries than any other city in the world. To this day BridgePort, Deschutes, Full Sail & Widmer have never missed a festival.

The 2015 OBF Parade will kick off the 28th Annual Oregon Brewers Festival as beer fans march from Metalcraft Fabrication to Tom McCall Waterfront Park. This year’s grand marshals, Kurt & Rob Widmer, will lead the parade of over 500 costumed thirsty beer fans to Waterfront Park for the festival’s opening ceremonies, scheduled to begin at noon on July 22, 2015.

The 102 participating breweries will offer 105 new brews to try, including 15 brews from the Netherlands and New Zealand that will comprise this year’s International Beer Garden. The Dutch and Kiwi brewers (orange shirts and black shirts, respectively) flown in by OBF will be available to chat and answers questions at the festival. These international brewers will also collaborate on brews with Portland breweries while in town. Eighty-nine North American breweries from 15 states and Canada will pour a total of 90 different beers ranging over 40 beer styles. Two gluten-free beers will be available, courtesy of Deschutes & Omission. Eighteen breweries will be first time participants at the festival.

Two-thousand volunteers will ensure that the festival runs smoothly. Live music, beer-related vendors, home-brewing demonstrations and food vendors will also be included in the festivities.

The 2015 Oregon Brewers Festival will take place at Tom McCall Waterfront Park from July 22 to July 26, 12-9pm daily.   The Parade will start at Metalcraft Fabrication at 723 N Tillamook Street at 11:30am on July 22. Participants will assemble in the fenced area on the corner to have ID checked and get a wristband. Wristbands will allow you to walk straight into the festival.

OBF is open to all ages. Admission to OBF is free; however a $7 tasting glass is required to drink the beer. $1.00 wooden tokens will act as drink tickets. One token will get you a 3-ounce pour; 4 tokens will get you 14 ounces of fermented ambrosia.   Glasses and tokens can be purchased on-site (cash-only). For social media, use #OBF15.
